La Carbonera, founded in Rioja by the Torres family in 2007, is dedicated to crafting expressive wines that reflect the unique character of the Rioja Alavesa subregion. With over twenty hectares of estate-owned vineyards, the winery is named after its most iconic vineyard, which holds the Viñedo Singular classification from DOCa Rioja. This prestigious designation is reserved for exceptional plots with vines at least 35 years old, hand-harvested, and yielding low quantities. Located in Labastida, at the heart of Rioja Alavesa—a sub-region renowned for its expressive and sought-after wines—La Carbonera’s vineyards are planted to goblet-trained Tempranillo vines. These vines, meticulously harvested by hand, thrive on gentle slopes and small terraces of chalky soil.
