Shy and difficult to grow yet charismatic and full in the glass, Viognier is quickly becoming the next loved white by many. A somewhat unknown varietal here in the US, Viognier's popularity has grown tremendously in the last few years due to its versatility, intense aromatics, and bright fruit flavors. Some even consider it to be the next Chardonnay. While its name is a mouthful so is the wine; just say "vee-own-yay. Upon opening, the 2004 Central Coast Viognier immediately sends forth a perfume of honeysuckle and peach blossoms. Once in the glass these aromas are accompanied by melon, buttered toast, and rich tropical fruits.
